about

Featuring the freshest cuts, independent imprint Santoku has engineered a compilation LP which demonstrates why they're currently standing on the forefront for homegrown, US talent. An LP which features the best of what this label has to offer, it also serves up brand new music from members of their roster, catering to a range of musical appetites. They've never been a label who restricts themselves to one type of sound and this is shown throughout the next sixteen tracks. There's a whole host of talent, whether that's the hard-crushing neuro of newcomer Foken, or the more subtle tones of Mayhem and label boss Logam.

Whilst some of the names taking pride of place on the track listing are more recognisable than others, there's a plethora of musicality present from start to finish. Mean Teeth takes you under with their first
offering, a snapping, maniacal riddim which pumps its bass into every layer. Pounding drums and grating snare only add to its ferocity. ‘Terror Force' from gressor Bunx follows in quick succession, bringing the same demonic vibes whilst throwing out stabbing beats and foreboding atmospherics. Space Journey is the next artist to take you on a mission, still a heavy hitter but winding up on elevating synth notes before smashing you head first through a thick block of LFO.

dLo moves you into a totally different realm on ‘Free Fall', with lofty stabs and carefully woven melody. On top of a gyrating bassline that moves perfectly with the music, you're at times taken to subterranean levels, catching you unexpectant. Bulgarian producer Equivalent returns to Santoku with ‘Trust', again taking you down a lighter route, one underpinned with rattling subs and carefully laid out drum patterns. Mean Teeth make themselves known yet again for a whole list of appearances on the album, first on steppy hurter ‘Leviathan', and next alongside heavyweight Trilo for ‘Gun Squad'. longside Cosmistic and Logam he's just as aggressive on ‘Solaris', which also follows through across ‘Transfixed'. Foken comes next with ‘Destination', effortlessly destructive with flipping kick and snare.

Label head Logam and Mayhem add their contribution to the list with "Aphelion', which again pedestals the imprints diversity. Des McMahon, a newcomer from California, sets loose ‘The Hawk', a solidly constructed record that's weighty composition is as impressive as it is enticing. And lastly, Agressor Bunx follows earlier
contribution ‘Drop the Bass' with another hurling monster ‘Like That', proving their still a force to be reckoned with, whilst M.Justa ends the LP with ‘Reptile', just as dynamic and snapping with every break.

If you wanted variety and expert engineering, that's exactly what Santoku have provided.
